On Saturday, August 15 the Kansas Rural Center conducted a Rapid Market Assessment at the Emporia Farmers Market. A Rapid Market Assessment (RMA) is the farmers market industry's chosen method for analyzing the health, impact, and success of a farmers market.
Kansas farmers market experts, volunteers and representatives from other markets conduct the RMA, compiling data from customer counts, dot surveys (interview questions answered with a sticky dot on a poster), market observations, and customer feedback. This provides an outside perspective of the market, helping it grow to benefit the entire region. The host market benefits from the perspective of "outside" team members who benefit themselves by taking home good ideas from the market they visit.
RMA team members conducted customer counts and dot surveys. Using these tools, the team is able to estimate shopper attendance on August 15.
